There are many ways of getting to Koh Chang, yet all routes require a ferry. There are two ferries boarding at different piers that can take you across; the Koh Chang Ferry and the Centrepoint Ferry.
For 80 baht per person one way, you can take the Koh Chang Ferry in Ao Thammachat to Ao Sapparot, and you will set foot on the island about 30 minutes later.
Depart from the Centrepoint Laem Ngob pier for 80 baht per person one way, and you will arrive at Dan Kao pier in 45 minutes. This ferry runs from 06.00 AM, every hour on the hour with the last two ferries departing at 18.00 PM and 19.30 PM.
Bus or minivan from Bangkok
There are busses departing from Ekkemai bus station or Suvarnabhumi airport in Bangkok that will bring you to one of the piers connecting to Koh Chang. The bus departing from Ekkemai runs daily from early morning till about 14.00 PM and a ticket can be purchased upon arrival.
A prearranged trip with either the big bus or minivans can be booked by any travel agency in Bangkok. You will be picked up at your hotel and dropped at one of the piers to go to Koh Chang. Some tickets will have the ferry rate included and some will require you to purchase a ferry ticket at the pier.
Another way of travelling is booking a private taxi that will bring you from door-to-door.
Koh Chang does not have an airport, but there are three daily flights during high season and two daily flights during low season between Bangkok and Trat, which takes less than an hour. The flight departure times during high season are 08.20 AM, 11.40 AM and 17.00 PM. During low season you can hop on a plane at 11.40 AM and 17.10 PM. Trat is located on the mainland, about 30 km from the pier. At Trat airport you can book a minivan that will bring you to the resort, which costs 500 THB per person. And no need to worry about missing the last ferry, they will wait for the flight passengers to arrive.
A lot of travelers nowadays come to Koh Chang via Cambodia. In all the big cities a bus ticket to Koh Chang can be purchased and will get you to one of the ferries. As with travelling from Bangkok or any other city in Thailand, some tickets will have the ferry included already and some don’t. Please check this with the travel agency while booking.
